What is Acne?
Acne is basically plugged pores (blackheads and whiteheads), pimples, etc that can occur on many parts of the body: the face, neck, chest, back, shoulders and the upper arms. Acne affects mostly teenagers since more Sebum and other toxins are produced at that age. However, the disease is not restricted to any age group; adults in their 20s – even into their 40s – can get acne. While not a life threatening condition, acne can be upsetting and disfiguring. When severe, acne can lead to serious and permanent scarring. Even less severe cases can lead to scarring.
How is it caused? Well there are many factors that than cause it, but i will give you the info here. Basically it is a disorder of the pilosebaceous unit, which is made up of a hair follicle, sebaceous gland, and a hair. What happens is people with acne have Propionibacterium acnes in their follicles. Propionibactrium uses Sebum for growth, but some times this can get blocked. Bacteria builds up and can combines with white blood cells which can produce a harmful enzymes. These enzymes damage the follicle and the contents of the follicle to enter the dermis(a skin layer), it can go red and inflamed. Blackheads and Whiteheads are produced when Sebum gets blocked and can come annoyingly visible. There are by far tones of acne treatments out there, but finding the right one can be a tricky thing to do.
