What is Acne?

Acne is basically plugged pores (blackheads and whiteheads), pimples, etc that can occur on many parts of the body: the face, neck, chest, back, shoulders and  the upper arms.  Acne affects mostly teenagers since more Sebum and other toxins are produced at that age.  However, the disease is not restricted to any age group; adults in their 20s – even into their 40s – can get acne.  While not a life threatening condition, acne can be upsetting and disfiguring.  When severe, acne can lead to serious and permanent scarring.  Even less severe cases can lead to scarring.

How is it caused? Well there are many factors that than cause it, but i will give you the info here. Basically it is a disorder of the pilosebaceous unit, which is made up of a hair follicle, sebaceous gland, and a hair.  What happens is people with acne have Propionibacterium acnes in their follicles. Propionibactrium uses Sebum for growth, but some times this can get blocked. Bacteria builds up and can combines with white blood cells which can produce a harmful enzymes. These enzymes damage the follicle and the contents of the follicle to enter the dermis(a skin layer), it can go red and inflamed. Blackheads and Whiteheads are produced when Sebum gets blocked and can come annoyingly visible. How to Cure Acne? 

There are by far tones of acne treatments out there, but finding the right one can be a tricky thing to do. I will save all the details for curing acne for another post (will be soon), but i spent quite alot of time looking for a good acne cure to recommend to people, a straight forward website that says it all, a well known and proven site. On the other hand, by constantly doing the following, you are weakening the natural protecting capabilities of your skin, you are slowing the healing process of your skin, and are making your skin look bad and making your acne worse:

1. Smoking

Besides lung cancer, heart disease and early aging of your skin (e.g. wrinkles), smoking causes the contraction of the small capillaries and blood vessels of the skin, thus depriving your skin from the essential oxygen I needs for the creation and maintenance of healthy cells.

2. Using Topical Steroids

Over the counter or prescription cortisone based creams, especially the potent types, can eventually thin your skin and worsen your acne condition in the long run in addition to the irritation, redness and other side effects steroid creams can cause. Moreover, topicals by definition address the symptoms of acne (inflammation, itching, puss), they do not treat the root cause of the disease. Nevertheless, taking care of your skin externally is highly recommended but should be performed gently using pure natural ingredients such as diluted tea tree oil.

3. Taking Antibiotics

Antibiotic treatments like tetracycline aggravate your acne in the long run and also severely damage your internal system in the process. Antibiotics destroy all the bacteria in your system including the good, probiotic bacteria like acidophilus that have many essential qualities that promote clear skin. One of these qualities is the ability to protect your digestive tract from parasites and fungus (that constantly stress and damage your liver, one of the most important organs responsible for the healing process of your skin).

4. Shaving with Four-In-One Razor blades

Never use these four-in-one razor blades when shaving especially if you have large bumps and painful cysts. The reason is that blades that guarantee the “closest shave” will cause severe irritation and will damage your skin. Always use a single blade when having “live” acne.

5. Picking Your Skin (popping and squeezing included)

Never, never and ever touch, pick or squeeze your blemishes, regardless of how temping and “safe” it may seem. By doing this unprofessionally, you make your acne worse by aggravating your existing inflammation and pushing the puss deeper and wider into the skin. There are in fact very effective and safe ways of dealing with small whiteheads or blackheads but I would strongly recommend leaving that to the professionals if you care for your skin and wish to prevent further scarring.

6. Taking excessive amounts of Vitamin A

Vitamin A from natural sources (green leafy vegetables and beta carotene fruit and veggies) and in small quantities can significantly enhance the healing process of your skin but when taken excessively it can seriously damage your liver and cause severe health problems and side effects.

7.Use over the counters for your Rosacea

That one is a no-brainer. Taking over the counters that by definition make your skin red and irritating is definitely not something you want to do when surfeiting from rosacea. If you suffer from rosacea, always consult your dermatologist prior to applying over the counters on your already inflamed and highly sensitive skin.

What it is- The blackhead tool is very effective even on small blackheads and can also be used for whiteheads. There are many different types of blackhead removers, but the most effective and easiest one is the tool that has a loop and a bowel shaped end. How to use it - This is an important part because if you don’t use it right, you will injure your skin and start getting spots. When you receive make sure you sterilize it, and do this every time you got to use it. Start by getting a bowl of steaming water, and place your head over it for about 5 – 10 Min’s. Afterwards use one end of the tool and place the hole over the blackhead. Then lightly press down, and the blackhead should come out. If it wont come out, LEAVE IT. Do not get carried away in trying to force it out; this permanently damage the pore, and could make it bleed. The best thing is to use a scrub, and when it opens a bit more try it again, and also only do this once a week. After you have finished splash your face in cold water, to close up the pores, and use some antiseptic on it. Like i said earlier it is effective but do not over do it like some people do.

Do suffer from blackheads? Tried everything to remove them? Seeing new ones every week (or day)? Well this could be the ultimate blackhead article for you. Just like you I suffer from blackheads, and there comes a time where you just get sick of them right? I have eventually found a way to clear blackheads and I am now seeing the difference. This method has worked for me, and fortunately, does not involve any extreme measures. It has so far been working for me, so if you consider trying it please let me know. Keep reading and you could remove your blackheads for good.

I have personally used lots (and I mean lots…) of blackhead products. Clean & Clear, Neutrogena, Biore and more. The problem is that most of their products are not too effective of blackheads, and I personally get out of the routine of using the blackhead scrub. After lots of money on their products the one that worked for me was Biore. I did not only use the blackhead scrub, I used the pore strips and the wipes as well. I also used a blackhead remover tool (very good). I came up with a process that would be so effective on my blackheads, but would only require a little more time. I will explain the process below.

What does the process require? Well maybe a little more time and cash investment but if you want to get rid of blackheads, this could be the solution. What would I need? A blackhead scrub (I use Biore), pore strips, blackhead tool, blackhead wipes, a bowl, and hot water. This is what I do:

Every day: use blackhead scrub (morning & evening)

Once a week: use pore strip (optional)

Steam face and use blackhead tool

On the go: Blackhead wipes

Ok let me explain all of that. Firstly use a blackhead scrub every day, I use Biore. This will help prevent blackheads and should start to clear them and make them larger; some blackheads may go large, and become very easy to get rid of. I then use pore strips every week, these are very effective and really do clean them up. Once a week fill a bowl with steaming water, put your head over it for 5mins (this opens your pores), then you can use a blackhead remover tool or a pore strip (only use this once a week though) to get rid of any blackheads. Afterwards, use cold water and blackhead wipe (or toner) on your face to close up those pores. I also use the wipes on the go, and helps keep skin feeling fresh and clear.

This is only my personal experience and may not work for you, but the process contains some main techniques in getting rid of blackheads. Another thing  to note is that to not over do it; use a scrub every day, but do not overly use the pore strips or the blackhead tool.
